Our present generation consumes carbonated drinks and packed foods which can reduce your life span. Processed foods are very bad to health and are a major contributor to obesity and illness. The word “processed “causes many problems. Most of the food items that we eat are processed in some way. Processing is of two types. They are
• Mechanical processing

• Chemical processing

There is a difference between both. It is a single ingredient food with no added then it does not matter. It’s real food even if it is put in a jar.
“Food industry gains profit from poor quality food with a poor nutritional value which people eat a lot”.
Whereas food items which are chemically processed are made from refined ingredients and artificial substances and are known as processed food.
Why processed foods are bad?
• Processed foods are usually loaded with added sugar and high fructose. It is well known that sugar, when consumed in excess, is seriously harmful. As we all know, sugar is empty calories and it has no essential nutrients. Many studies clearly show that sugar can have devastating effects on metabolism which goes beyond calorie content.
• Processed foods and beverages are the biggest sources of sugar in the diet. Sugar is unhealthy and can have serious effects on metabolism when it is consumed in excess.
• We all wish to eat good food and its human nature. But evolution provided us with taste. Food manufacturers spend a massive amount of resources on making their foods, they attract consumers and it leads them in over-consumption.
• Highly processed foods contain Preservatives, colorants, flavors, and textures. Processed food contains dozens of additional chemicals which are not even labelled.
• People get addicted to junk food which has serious consequences.
• People think that the majority of our energy intake should be from carbohydrates. Processed foods are high in carbohydrates but it is refined variety.
• Processed foods are low in nutrients when compared to unprocessed foods. In some cases, synthetic vitamins and minerals are added to foods to compensate for losses that are lost during processing. The more processed foods that we eat is the less you will get of these nutrients.
• Processed foods are low in fiber. The fiber that is found naturally in food is lost during processing. Fiber has very important health benefits but most of the processed foods are very low in fiber as it gets removed during processing.
• It requires less time to eat most often they are very easy to chew and swallow but one consequence of this is it takes less energy to eat and digest processed foods.
• It is high in unhealthy fats. It usually contains cheap fats, redefined seeds and vegetable oil, as they are extremely unhealthy and most people ate eating too much of it.
